Argentina is known for having great food, and it doesn’t just stop at the main course! Here are five traditional Argentinian desserts that are sure to leave you wanting more!
1. Dulce de Leche
Perhaps one of the greatest things to come out of Argentina (aside from Lionel Messi), dulce de leche is a caramel-type sauce made with condensed milk. It is used extensively in Argentina – something you will come to realise by the end of this list! It’s soft, creamy, versatile, and mouth-wateringly delicious!
2. Alfajores
Alfajores are a type of biscuit which usually contain a filling of dulce de leche and sometimes, a covering of chocolate. There are many different types; the one pictured above is known as an “alfajor de maicena”, and is the most traditional variation! It is made with two pieces of biscuit and a filling of dulce de leche; it is then rolled in flakes of coconut to add an extra flavour to your taste buds!
3. Chocotorta
The chocotorta is a marvel of Argentine cuisine! It’s a simple yet delicious type of cake and is a favourite amongst the people of Argentina! The primary ingredients are dulce de leche, cream cheese, milk and chocolate biscuits. The chocotorta is ridiculously easy to make and only requires leaving in the fridge for a couple of hours – no cooking needed!
4. Flan
The flan is an Argentinian classic and it has many different variations! The main ingredients are egg, milk, and sugar, to which dulce de leche, caramel or cream can be added! It can be enjoyed it many different ways but the result is always the same – a delicious dessert!
5. Conitos
Similar to alfajores, conitos involve a biscuit being covered in (you guessed it!) dulce de leche and chocolate! They’re perfect if you have a very sweet tooth, but be careful not to get addicted!
