The Secret Pizzeria in Buenos Aires Named as One of the World’s Best

In the suburbs of Buenos Aires exists one of the best pizzerias not only in South America, but in the world. Located in Adrogué, in the Province of Buenos Aires, Ti Amo Pizzeria holds several awards and was placed as the best pizzeria in Argentina in 2024 and one of the 50 best in the world two years running!

A family-run business, Ti Amo Pizzeria is known as the “pizzeria secreta” due to it’s unbeknownst location. If you were walking through the streets of Adrogué, you might mistake the building for just another house when its doors are shut. The restaurant has gained much of its popularity in recent years through word-of-mouth, given its very local vibes, and it’s now become a very well-known and sought-after destination – so much so that Ti Amo now only works with reservations, which you can check out here: https://tiamopizzeria.meitre.com/.

Whilst pizzas are generally thicker in Argentina, the traditional, thin, Napolitan style pizza is one that just can’t be replaced. Pizzeria Ti Amo makes proper Italian pizzas in the proper way!

Without pretending I know too much about pizza, Ti Amo’s success comes down to their use of Italian dough, an Italian wood-fired oven, and more importantly, the passion and knowledge of the people inside! As the name may also suggest, the restaurant’s signature piece is the heart-shaped pizza, which can be requested instead of the standard round pizza.

Ti Amo only serves pizza, but the menu is quite extensive and there are lots of different toppings to choose from. Aside from the classic margherita, the restaurant also serves pizzas with pepperoni, mortadella, parmesan, mushrooms, bacon, and many more toppings. For dessert, you can also enjoy their made-in-house tiramisu, which is definitely a 10/10, and when you sit down at the restaurant, you’ll be greeted with a small glass of champagne!

When you place a reservation, you can choose to sit inside or outside. For the outside tables, you also have the option to choose between sitting under the awning or out in the street, and during the winter months, the whole outdoor area is sheltered and warmed by an outdoor heater!

I recently visited Ti Amo in the middle of June (the beginning of winter in Argentina) and the outdoor area was really quite cosy. The residential location of the restaurant and the fact that the tables are basically dotted along the pavement, really makes for a personal and laid-back (yet premium) experience!

Ti Amo only opens on certain days of the week, it’s opening hours are as follows:

Thursday/Friday: 20:00 – 24:00

Saturday: 13:00 – 15:30, 20:00 – 23:30

Sunday: 13:00 – 16:00, 20:00 – 23:30

Depending on the time of year, it’s usually best to book one or two weeks in advance, as the restaurant isn’t the biggest and it can get really busy!

Ti Amo began in 2019 as a project in the family’s back garden, and by the end of the year, Susana, Carola and Victoria had officially opened the restaurant.

To begin with, there were just a few tables in the garden and the only customers were friends and family. The opening of the restaurant was halted somewhat by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the family team decided to focus on takeaway orders and frozen pizzas, and as time went on, Ti Amo began gradually re-opening its doors to the public.

In 2022 and 2023, Ti Amo placed among the top 50 pizzerias in the world, in the 50 Top Pizza guide. In September 2023, the restaurant also placed 3rd in Latin America (and 1st in Argentina), simultaneously receiving the Performance of the Year Award.

At the awards, Ti Amo’s owners posted on Instagram:

“Hi to everyone from Rio de Janeiro!! Last night Ti Amo was chosen as the 3rd best Italian pizzeria in Latin America, given the special prize Best Performance 2024 and named as the best in Argentina. Thank you to everyone for so many messages, you’re the best! To our team, la Tiamoneta: thanks for everything, you’re number one. Great news is coming. We’ll see you from 8pm onwards! Vamos Adrogué!!”

Following the continued success of Ti Amo, the family have since opened another restaurant in another part of Buenos Aires named Colegiales. The place is called La Sorellina and works as Ti Amo’s “sister”. For the moment, La Sorellina doesn’t take reservations and operates on a ‘first come first served’ basis. So, if you’re looking for a last-minute plan and Ti Amo is fully booked, you can still enjoy a proper Italian pizza at La Sorellina!

If you’re looking for a nice place to go for a romantic meal, a chilled weekend lunch, or if you just fancy a pizza whilst in Buenos Aires, Ti Amo is definitely a great shout! Have you been to Ti Amo? What did you think of the pizza? Let us know in the comments below!
